You decide which websites can show your bot, and which pages the support chat or the Ask console appears on. Find these in the bot's settings under Where it appears. Changes reach visitors within about five minutes.
Allowed websites#
One website per line:
yoursite.com
*.yoursite.com
yoursite.comallows exactly that address.*.yoursite.comallows every subdomain (help.yoursite.com,shop.yoursite.com) andyoursite.comitself.- Pasting a full address is fine:
https://help.yoursite.com/faqis saved ashelp.yoursite.com. - For testing on your own computer, add
localhost:3000(with your port).
Leave it empty to allow any site. That's handy while you're setting up, but once your bot is live, list your sites. Otherwise anyone could copy your snippet onto their own site and use up your answers.
Visitors' browsers enforce this list: on other sites the chat won't load, and the bubble or search box won't show.
Which pages it shows on#
Only show on these pages, one per line. Leave it empty to show on every page.
/help/*
/docs/*
/pricing
Never show on these pages always wins over "only show on":
/checkout/*
/account/billing
*matches anything, including more slashes:/help/*covers/help/returnsand/help/returns/international.- Without
*, the path must match exactly:/pricingdoesn't cover/pricing/teams. - Paths are case-sensitive and don't include the domain or anything after
?.
Common setups#
Support chat everywhere except checkout. Allowed websites yoursite.com and *.yoursite.com; never show on
/checkout/*.
Search box in the docs, chat everywhere else. Use two bots (on the Team plan):
- an Ask console bot that only shows on
/docs/*; - a support chat bot that never shows on
/docs/*.
You can paste both snippets on every page; each shows only where it should.
A different bot per subdomain. docs.yoursite.com gets the Ask console bot, shop.yoursite.com gets the
support chat bot. Set each bot's allowed websites to just its own subdomain.
Troubleshooting#
- The bubble doesn't show at all. Check the page's domain is in Allowed websites (or the list is empty), and that the page isn't excluded. Check the bot is public. Then wait five minutes, since browsers keep the settings for a little while.
- The bubble shows but the chat is blank. The page is usually on a site that isn't in Allowed websites. Your
browser's console will mention
frame-ancestors. - It works in Preview but not on my site. Preview always works, because it runs on tufu itself. Check your site's domain against the list.
